Our Sustainability Promise

At Cairn Hotel Newcastle, we recognise the influence and impact that our business has on the environment and the communities in which we operate. We are committed to sustainability and to minimising our carbon footprint, while enhancing the wellbeing of our guests, employees, and local communities. We are supported in this journey by our sustainability accreditation partner, Green Tourism.

Supporting Our Community

We are dedicated to supporting our local community and various charitable causes. Our team actively participated in a fundraising run for Macmillan Cancer Support to raise vital funds for cancer research. We’ve also donated dining vouchers for Dragonfly Cancer Trust, Kenton Hall Care Home, and Wallsend Girls’ Football Team to help them raise money for their respective charities.

We proudly support the Newcastle Foundation NUFC, which works with young and vulnerable children in our area, and during the festive season, we contribute to The People’s Kitchen by donating food parcels. Additionally, we engage in community litter picks, reinforcing our commitment to social responsibility and sustainability.

Environmental Initiatives

We are committed to effective waste management and sustainability. We have a comprehensive waste management system in place, regularly monitoring and managing both general and food waste, which is discussed during our BRM (Business Review Meetings). We use Restore for confidential waste, which is collected weekly to ensure secure disposal. Our general waste is carefully separated from recycling materials, and we responsibly dispose of batteries separately.

Additionally, we are currently exploring solutions for the collection and disposal of printer cartridges, further enhancing our commitment to reducing our environmental impact.

Our Team

We are committed to creating a safe, healthy, and sustainable workplace for all team members. Our staff play an active role in minimising our environmental impact, with regular sustainability training and the support of an on-site Sustainability Champion. We closely monitor business and staff travel, encouraging public transport and car-sharing wherever possible to reduce emissions.

To further our commitment to sustainability, we have incorporated EV vehicles into our operations. Additionally, we track energy and activity targets, reporting progress monthly to our head office, ensuring continuous improvement in our environmental initiatives.

Guest Support

At Cairn Hotel Newcastle, we encourage our guests to choose sustainable transport options when travelling into the city centre. The Q3 Electric bus, which stops right outside the hotel, is the fastest and most eco-friendly way to get into town. We also provide maps and public transport timetables on-site to help guests navigate the area easily.

For added convenience, we offer taxi numbers through business cards at the reception. Additionally, comprehensive local transportation information is available on all our websites, ensuring guests have easy access to eco-friendly travel options during their stay.
